Description
ANLIS-CeNDIE se ha caracterizado cronológicamente por incluir investigadores que supieron articular la entomología con la disciplina médica. Históricamente (1925 - 2011) se han llevado a cabo investigaciones para el estudio de insectos transmisores de enfermedades tales como la fiebre amarilla, el mal de chagas, el dengue, las miasis y la leishmaniasis. Estos estudios llevaron aparejados la conformación de una colección entomológica con un sesgo particular hacia insectos de importancia para la salud, siendo una de las principales colecciones de referencia de importancia médico sanitaria del país, consultada en forma permanente por los investigadores. Contiene todos los grupos de interés sanitario, resultado de las distintas expediciones y campañas de estudio llevadas a cabo por relevantes investigadores. Junto a la Colección del Entomológica del Instituto Oswaldo Cruz de Brasil son las de mayor importancia de América Latina. La colección a lo largo de los años ha sido denominada de diversas maneras: Colección del Departamento de Entomología Sanitaria del Instituto Nacional de Microbiología; Colección del Instituto de Entomología Sanitaria. Ministerio de Salud Pública de la Nación; Colección de la Administración Nacional de Laboratorios e Institutos de Salud “Dr. Carlos G. Malbrán"(este último utilizado actualmente cuyo acrónimo es ANLIS-Ent)
