Description

This dataset collects information from a seasonal campaign run by personal from the environmental consultant, Geólogos Asociados S.A, in the context of the implementation of a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) from the oil and gas company Total Energies. A BAP is a document the company prepares for each site they have activities on. This document includes actions regarding conservation, restoration and protection of biodiversity on-site. In this case, the monitoring campaign was aimed to check the biodiversity status of the mammal ensemble on the surroundings of the Aguada Pichana Este deposit.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 13 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

15 transects were set covering the 4 environmental 5 in the Ravines and Canyons unit 3 in the alluvial lowland 4 in the transition area 3 in the antique terraces area

Study Extent The study was held in the surroundings of Aguada Pichana Este, a Total Austral´s operational site, located in Añelo, Neuquén, Argentina. Surveys were made covering 4 environmental units: Ravines and Canyons: includes a structural plain and active erosion headwaters and Alluvial lowland Transition area: includes alluvial lowland with eolic deposit, moving dunes, sandstone outcrops and polymictic soils. Antique terraces of Neuquen river.
Quality Control To ensure an accurate identification of the observed individuals, birdwatching binoculars, cameras with interchangeable zoom semireflex lenses were used. Playback recordings were made of interest species

Method step description:

  1. 1) Habitat description and characterization 2)Brief characterization of associated floristic elements. 3)Mammals systematic sampling through surveying 15 500m long and 50 m wide transects, distributed along the 4 environmental units already described. Both direct and indirect observations were done. 4) 20 Sherman trap installation for animal capture and later liberation. Baits such as vanilla essence, oat and sunflower seeds. Traps have an external protection to avoid heat shock in the animals once in the trap. In case of capture, the animal is handled with appropriate gloves for the least time possible, photographed and set free.
