Registros

Vegetation: It was surveyed through a systematic sampling: using the Braun-Blanquet technic (Mueller Dumbois & Ellenberg, 1974; Braun-Blanquet, 1979) for cover percenteage estimation. The quadrant extent was 5x5 m. All the quadrants were georeferenced. The technic consists of identifying all the species present within the quadrant determined and assigning a cover percenteage value for each of them. Cover perceanteage is a variable that allows abundance estimation. Mammals and herpetofauna : the survey was made using an stratified sampling due to the high environmental heterogeneity in the area. The area was divided in three sectors: A, B and C and each sector was stratified with the biotic units present: Coast, Mallin, Murtillar, Grassland, Shrubland and interior lake). In each strat, a systematic sampling has been made. using two different methods: vehicular linear transects census, for direct observation during a continuous route and with length contol in the internal circuits, and observation stations census with time control. It was assumed that all the individuals present in both the transects and the observation stations were counted and that all observations were independent. 51 vehicular transects were defined: 19 transects for Sector A, 22 for Sector B and 10 for Sector C. They were at least 1km long but not more than 1,5 km and were travelled at a 40 km/h speed. Moreover, 46 observation stations were defined: 18 for Sector A, 17 for Sector B and 11 for Sector C. In this observation stations: both transects and observation points were made. Aves: For this survey, the Brandolin counting method was developed during 10 minutes. This time span was defined to avoid bias from gregarious birds or those who move very actively and long enough to detect solitary birds, less conspicuous and with discontinuos vocalization. In each sampling station, transects were also defined, with the objective of identifying individual that may be hidden. over 25 meters from the station central point. In the dataset, there are some abbreviations regarding the different sampling spots. Here the specification of what each abbreviaton means: E = Wild fauna monitoring station (comes from Estación de monitoreo de fauna silvestre in spanish) C = Vegetation sampling cuadrant (comes from Cuadrante de muestreo de vegetación in spanish) VP = Vantage Point T =Transect TV = Vehicular transect (comes from Transecta Vehicular in spanish)
| Área de Estudio | The study included surveys from the following biodiversity assemblages: Aves Mammals Vegetation The main objective of the survey was to have some solid initial information from the study area, important to design a Biodiversity Action Plan for Biodiversity conservation in the area. |
|---|---|
| Control de Calidad | The vegetation species identification was made using the nomenclature descripted in the Flora del Cono Sur (Documenta Flora Australis: http://conosur. floraargentina.edu.ar/) and Flora Vascular de la República argentina (Anton & Zuloaga 2012). Aves: For the parameter calculation of parameters such as relative abundance, only direct observations and individuals identified thorugh their vocalizations were taken into account. The rest of the signals or traces were used as a complement for determining species richness. |
Descripción de la metodología paso a paso:
- Vegetation: The survey begun by defining the 49 quadrants and then, the especies identification and cover estimation was made. In each of the 46 sampling stations, a walking transect ranging between 200 to 500 m long was made, looking for active individuals and lizard activity traces. The individual counting in each transect was made through visual identification, following the Ojasti and Dallmeier criteria (2000) During the walking of the transects, lizard activity signals and presence traces were looked for. Those signals can be presence of caves and stool. Aves: The counting begun when arriving at the site, leaving 1 minute for habituation. Then, the register begun for the time already specified.
