Description

This dataset compiles biodiversity data collected in campaigns developed by Geólogos Asociados S.A. Geólogos Asociados S.A is the environmental consultant who is in charge of the environmental and biodiversity assessment in Total Austral´s Neuquén operational sites. The biodiversity campaigns mentioned are part of the implementation of a Biodiversity Action Plan, a mandatory document which must be designed for every TotalEnergies´ operational site. This document specifies implementation actions with the objective of reducing the impacts on biodiversity the company´s activities may produce. The actions involve biodiversity monitoring, conservation and restoration. The information shown in this document corresponds to key, endemic or category status species´ observations in a herpetofauna monitoring campaign developed in Agua Pichana Este.

Project Data

The project includes specific herpetofauna monitoring campaigns developing as part of TotalEnergies´ 2025 Biodiversity Action Plan on all their Neuquén operational sites : Aguada Pichana Este, Rincón La Ceniza y La Escalonada. The aim of the campaigns is to collect reliable scientific information on the most sensitive species of the herpetofauna ensamble in the areas, in order to be able to define further conservations actions for these species on the short and long term and check on their populations´ stability through time.

Sampling Methods

This dataset compiles data from both a spring and summer campaign. Spring campaign (September 2024) 22 transects were surveyed, divided among the environmental units the following way: 8 in the transition unit 6 in alluvial lowland 4 in ravines and canyons 4 in antique terraces of the Neuquén River The transects were 500 m long and 50 m wide. They were traversed at a steady pace. Las mismas son recorridas a paso sostenido, registrando riqueza y abundancia de los ejemplares

Study Extent The monitoring campaign was developed in the surroundings of Aguada Pichana Este, a Total Austral operational site located in Añelo, Neuquén, Argentina. Surveys were made covering 4 environmental units: Ravines and Canyons: includes a structural plain and active erosión headwaters and Alluvial lowland Transition area: includes alluvial lowland with eolic deposit, moving dunes, sandstone outcrops and polymictic soils. Antique terraces of Neuquen river
Quality Control The transects were all the same size and they were scattered across the four environmental units the ensure representation of all the area in the results.

  1. 1) Habitat description and characterization 2) Brief floristic elements characterization 3) Systematic herpetofauna sampling thorugh the mentioned transects 4) Suitable environment identification and mapping, specially for endemic species: Liolaemus cuyumhue, L. calliston, L. quinterosi, L. kulinko, L. cyaneinotatus y Phymaturus aff sitesi 5) Field validation of referenced environments. 6) Georeferencing of relevant ecological attributes
