Description

This dataset compiles biodiversity data collected in campaigns developed by Geólogos Asociados S.A. Geólogos Asociados S.A is the environmental consultant who is in charge of the environmental and biodiversity assessment in Total Austral´s Neuquén operational sites. The biodiversity campaigns mentioned are part of the implementation of a Biodiversity Action Plan, a mandatory document which must be designed for every TotalEnergies´ operational site. This document specifies implementation actions with the objective of reducing the impacts on biodiversity the company´s activities may produce. The actions involve biodiversity monitoring, conservation and restoration. The information shown in this document corresponds to key, endemic and category status´ species in an herpetofauna affectation study survey. The objective of the survey was to monitor the response of the community of herpetofauna to a local disturb associated to company activities.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 18 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

16 transects have been set for the survey in this area and 3 more were set as control transects in less disturbed areas. 3 observations spots were also set, considered relevant for species observations. The observations on these spots were only taken into account for species richness2 but not the abundance calculations from the transects.

Study Extent The study was held in the surroundings of an area Aguada Pichana Este in which there have recently been done soil movements and constructions.
Quality Control To ensure the results were the most representative of the herpetofauna community in the area, the surveys were developed during spring or summer season, being the seasons in which these species are more active due to their ectotermic condition.

Method step description:

  1. 1) Affected habitat description and characterization 2) Brief characterization of associated floristic elements. 3) Herpetofauna systematic sampling through surveying 16 1000m long and 100 m wide transects, associated to the disturbs which happened recently in the area. 4) Herpetofauna systematic sampling through surveying 3 control transects, same length and width. These transects haven't suffered any disturbs and will serve as comparison as they are located mirrored to those who have suffered disturbs, as well as describe all the descripted habitats. 5) Transect mapping, GPS spot (reptile register), affected habitats 6) Field validation of the mapped environments 7) Notable ecological attributes georeferencing
