Descrição

The information in this dataset was collected during several campaigns made by the biodiversity consultant "BIOSUM", which is in charge of the biodiversity assessment in the Cuenca Marina Austral-1 on shore (CMA-1 on-shore) The campaigns were developed in the frame of the preparation of a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) for the area. A BAP is a mandatory document each Total Austral´s operational site has to prepare. It compiles conservation actions that then must be implemented in the area. In order to be able to define these conservation actions, a first step is to collect high-quality scientific data of the area to analyze its current biodiversity status. Therefore, a seasonal flora and fauna spring monitoring campaign  was conducted to this end.

Métodos de Amostragem

The floral component was surveyed developing a stratified systematic survey. The surveying technique was the quadrant technique, assigning a cover percentage to each especies present in the quadrant. This variable is a non-destructive variable for measuring abundance. 50 quadrants were surveyed, which were already surveyed in previous campaigns. Each quadrant had a 25 m2 surface. The faunal component was surveyed using different techniques for each animal group particularly. The study had already been stratified in 6 biotic units, each of them being surveyed particularly with a systematic sampling technique. Moreover, for some animal groups, asystematic sampling was made, but those observatios were not taken into account for the abundance calculations, only for species richness. 51 sampling stations were surveyed. Reptiles The survey was made through free active searching of individuals and the exhaustive potential microhabitat checking the only reported reptile species in CMA-1, Liolaemus magallanicus. This method was repeated for the 51 stations. In each one of them, walking transects were done, each one longer than 200 m. The counting of individuals was made by visual encounter following the Ojasti and Dallmeier criterio. During the transect survey, indirect evidence of reptile presence was registered such as caves or stool. The individuals encountered were captured, sexed and its snout-vent length (SVL) was registered. Birdlife This group was surveyed using the Brandolin, et.al (2007) counting method on each station registering every individual seen or heard for 10 minutes. Associated to each sampling station, there was a walking transect, to identify and register individual which may be hidden. Asystematic sampling was also made, through vehicular travelling of the area. Individual sighting was made through fotographic cameras with a 300 m telephoto lens and binoculars.

Área de Estudo This campaign attempted to describe the local biodiversity in Cuenca Marina Austral- 1 on-shore, both flora and fauna from its different environmental strata. The study prioritizes both the communities´ structural description, from biological indices and dominance-abundance curves, as well as the detection of non-registered especies.
Controle de Qualidade Birdlife: Before starting the survey, there was a 1-minute habituation time to ensure the birds were not warded off. The field identification of the species was made using the field and song guides from Narosky and Yzurieta (2010) and López-Lanús (2020). Moreover for the orders, families, scientific names and vernacular names for the birds observed Monteleone and Pagano (2022) and Remsen et.al (2025) was consulted. Mammals: The individual and bone remains identification was made following Olrog and Lucero (1981) Redford and Eisenberg, (1992) and the keys from Braun and Díaz (1999), Díaz (2000) and the Jayap et al. (2006), Agnolin et al. (2008), Jayap et al. (2011) and Barquez and Díaz (2020) descriptions.

Descrição dos passos do método:

  1. Step description The survey was made following the steps on each sampling method already described.
