Description

This dataset includes information on herpetofauna sampling events during surveys in Aguada Pichana Este, an operational site of the company Tota Austral.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 19 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

Event (core)

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Geographic Coverage

The area in which the survey has been developed is an operational site of the oil and gas company Total Austral. Within the site, 4 environmental units were defined: Planicie Arbustiva (PA) (Bushy plain), Quebradas y Cañadones (QYC) (Ravines and Canyons), Bajada Aluvial con Matorral (BA), (lowland floodplain with thicket) and Antiguas Terrazas del Río Neuquén (AT) (Old Neuquén River Terraces)

Project Data

The survey was made as part of a Biodiversity Action Plan which involves monitoring of the different fauna assemblages to ensure they remain estable through the years in which simultaneously the company operates in the area. Every year the survey is repeated covering two seasons : high or peak season and low season, the high being spring-summer and the low during autumn- winter asocciated with more high and low temperatures respectively. In Temporal coverage, there is the details of the dates of the high season 2022, high season 2023 and high season 2024 surveys.

Title Herpetofauna monitoring survey: low and high season

Sampling Methods

In the four environmental units described, 22 transects were determined, 8 in the BA area, 6 in the PA area, 4 in the QYC and 4 in the AT area. Each transect has a 500 m length and a 50 m width. There were also added to the survey 6 observation points that can complement the information collected with the observation in the transects. These information is summarised for every sampling event in the column Location ID, e.g: APE-PA-13, where APE is the abbreviation for the site, PA is the abbreviation of the environmental unit and then there is the number of the transect.

Study Extent The survey was developed in 4 environmental units already detailed in the geographic coverage section.

Method step description:

  1. The proposed transects were traversed on foot by two observers, georeferencing the findings and specifying, as far as possible, the life stage of the individuals (juveniles, adults, and sex).
