Description
This dataset includes sampling events information from Seasonal Biodiversity surveys conducted in 2023 and 2024 in La Escalonada by Total Austral.
Data Records
The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 20 records.
1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data
The surveys were made as part of the data collection for the design of a Biodiversity Action Plan in the area. The objective of the surveys was to identify the main Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in order to design mitigation actions and prioritise their conservation. The data collection was made in 4 campaigns, one in each season: starting in Autumn 2023, and finishing in Summer 2024. The specific dates are detailed in Temporal Coverage.
Title | Seasonal Monitoring Biodiversity Surveys in La Escalonada |
---|---|
Study Area Description | The oilfield was divided in environmental units which were called: Meseta basáltica (basaltic plateau) Meseta con depósitos eólicos (plateau with wind deposits) Quebradas y Cañadones (ravines and canyons) Bajo Inundable (lowland floodable area) |
Design Description | In every area with exception of the lowland floodable area, there were transects defined for the survey of fauna and flora. In the dataset, you can identify in which area of the oilfield a certain individual was fund by looking at the LOCATION ID. the first acronym is the oilfied name, in this case it is always LESC for La Escalonada. Then there is the acronym for the area within the oilfied which are: MB for Meseta basálitca MD for Meseta with wind deposits QYC for Quebradas y Cañadones After that comes the number of the transect |
Sampling Methods
For the survey, 22 transects were defined: 8 in the BA area, 6 in the PA area, 4 in the QyC area and 4 in the AT area. Each transect was 500 m long and 50 m wide. To enlarge the information collected in the transects, 6 extra observation spots were located to register the occurence of more individuals. They covered the 4 environmental units described.
Study Extent | The survey covered 4 environmental units from the site, which are already described in the section "Project Data" |
---|
Method step description:
- The transects were traversed by foot registering the individuals seen and identifying to species level.
